A 17-year-old student from Mount Pleasant Shubha Vedula got a golden ticket on the Wednesday night auditions episode of American Idol. I think it is great that people from our home state are accomplishing such great things especially one as great as making it to Hollywood on American idol. This girl has accomplished something millions of people have tried and failed at.
Shubha Vedula sang “Something’s Got A Hold On Me,” by Christina Aguilera.Although judges Keith Urban and Randy Jackson had a hard time pronouncing her name, they had no trouble agreeing that Shubha should continue to Hollywood. Not only did she make it but she was a definite yes like sometimes some of the judges have to think about it or be persuaded by another judge but this wasn’t the case for her.
Other judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj weren’t there to see Vedula; Carey appeared after the segment saying she was stuck in traffic, while Minaj had a prior commitment. It’s a bummer that not all the judges were there because it just makes the experience of being on there different. Also it would be one of the best feelings to have someone like Nicki Minaj or Mariah Carey tell you that you have a good voice and to say yes to your performance.

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. — Intermittent power outages Wednesday night and early Thursday morning created enough headaches in the city of South Haven that local schools closed for the day Thursday. I think these kids are lucky because they have no and it’s not even a snow day. Also with problems with the power they could be out of school for the rest of the week.
Public Works Director Roger Huff said a problem with an incoming line from service provider AEP was responsible for the issues. He said that power was interrupted about 18 different times starting at 7:45 P.M. Wednesday, but that electric service had been continuous since around 5:00 A.M. Thursday. With the power getting interrupted 18 times I’m sure these kids are going to have a nice long weekend. Even if they fix the power I’m sure they will have a snow day because they are right by the lakeshore where all this heavy snow is coming from.
Huff reported that AEP was investigating the issue, and that the problem was more of a “nuisance” than anything that threatened safety for the city’s approximately five thousand electric customers. It’s a good thing that the power outages aren’t threatening anyone’s safety and that the whole city didn’t loose power.it would be bad if the whole city lost power that would mean nearly five thousand people would be without power.

On Wednesday night a women was kidnapped at gunpoint outside the Central Michigan University Student Activity Center, but she escaped and the abductor was shot to death when he rammed police cars, according to the Isabella County Sheriff. This is kind of scary to me because stuff like this is happening so close to where we live. And this could happen to just about anybody. The woman was forced into her own SUV. The pair left the campus and went to a home where the abductor bound and sexually assaulted the woman. He then took her to a barn where he got some gas cans. It’s also scary because of the intentions of kidnappers.
After getting in the victim’s car and driving, the abductor told the woman he was going to kill her. At that point, she jumped from the moving car and ran to a house for help. The people in the house let her in and locked the door, and the woman called 911. The suspect followed her, used gasoline to set the house on fire, and fled. One of the homeowners was able to put out the fire.
I think that it’s messed up that he was willing to harm other people and their property because they were helping out a victim. I’m glad that she was ale to get away and the people could help her and I’m glad the were able to put the fire out.
A description of the vehicle the suspect was driving was sent out to law enforcement agencies, and he was spotted in Otsego and Crawford counties, and several hours later the suspect rammed a state trooper’s unit. He then stole a small sanitation truck and hit a Crawford County deputy’s cruiser head on. The deputy got out of his unit, ran up to the suspect and fired. The suspect was killed. Once again it scares me that this is happening so close to us I mean Otsego is our neighbor town. But at least we know he is off the streets thanks to a brave deputy. The victims identity was not released.
